SEMINAR REQUIREMENTS

ALL graduate students are expected to attend and participate in ALL the Departmental seminars not just during the semesters they present their work. Seminar requirements are given below. If you have a question or concern, contact your major professor and the seminar coordinator.

SEMINAR IN HORTICULTURE AND FORESTRY - Hort 950 - it is required that all Masters students present two seminars and Ph.D. students present three seminars per degree granted. Seminar is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis. Below are the specific course requirements.

Information:
1. Each graduate student is required to present at least two seminars in the course of obtaining their M. S. degree and three seminars in the course of obtaining their Ph.D. degree. One seminar should cover his/her thesis and the other two for Ph.D. may be either an introduction to his/her research or an alternate theme subject, for example, of these two seminars one may be an extension presentation.

Minimum time for introduction or alternate theme seminar should be thirty minutes. A final thesis seminar should be forty to fifty minutes in length.

2. Grading is on a pass/fail system. No exceptions will be made to the graduate seminar requirements.

3. Graduate students when appropriate should have their seminar approved by their advisor and seminar coordinator two weeks before the seminar is to be presented.

4. Graduate seminars will be evaluated by those attending the seminar (see next page). Evaluations are for the benefit of the student, not for grading purposes.

5. Please turn in your title at the first seminar period of the semester to the seminar coordinator. A brief abstract will be turned in at least one week before your seminar. Students will be responsible for duplication and distribution of their abstract.

6. The secretarial staff will not prepare seminar materials for graduate students, i.e. transparencies, typed materials, etc. Graduate students are to utilize other resources.

7. Graduate student access to clerical assistance is to be only through the student's major professor and then only for purposes of manuscript, abstract or poster preparation.
