LABORATORY FACILITIES
Graduate students are encouraged
to make use of the departmental laboratory facilities. Any
equipment, chemicals or both, that are borrowed or used from
these labs should be appropriately signed out. There may also
be a sample cost for equipment use. It is the graduate student's
responsibility to report broken items or chemicals used to the
Lab Coordinator. Check with your major advisor. These costs
may be covered by the project budget or the advisor may require
the graduate student to cover them personally.
Prior to use of technical
equipment or lab space, you must contact the faculty member in
charge of the lab for permission to use the space and receive
proper instruction. Safety procedures are set in the departmental
Safety Manual. A copy is available for check-out in the Horticulture
office. Lab space must be kept neat and clean. Be alert to any
unsafe conditions and see that they are corrected when detected.
Safety first is everyone's responsibility! Safe lab procedures
are always in force. Failure to comply will result in a
warning. If problems persist, the student will lose lab privileges.
University policy, there
is to be NO eating or drinking in any lab.
