Grievance Procedures

All Graduate Students are encouraged to work out any differences with their major advisor or committee member through direct communications. If this avenue does not seem to work, then the student should see the chairperson of the Graduate Committee to discuss the grievance. If need be, the chairperson will suggest that the Department Head be included in the discussion. In either case, the chairperson of the Graduate Committee will serve as an intermediary between the graduate student and the major advisor in an attempt to resolve the conflict. It is essential that complaints should not leave the department without the knowledge of the Chair of the Graduate Committee and the Department Head.

If the case is one of sexual harassment or sexist language usage in a course, the student is encouraged to talk with his/her major professor, a member of the graduate faculty, the chair of the Graduate Committee or the Department Head depending on whom the individual feels more comfortable with in order to resolve the situation. The University of Nebraska does not condone or support harassment in any form.
